Abstract

|
Osteochondral lesions of the talus are usually induced by injuries of the ankle or repeated microfractures. If left untreated it can be the cause of chronic pain in the ankle joints. Radiological examination-, computed tomography-, or magnetic resonance imaging-based diagnoses are most effective in detecting osteochondral lesions of the talus. The recommended first line of treatment options for ostechondral lesions of the talus are arthroscopic debridement, arthropscopic microfracture, and arthroscopic multiple drilling. In case where the first line of approach fails or the lesion is large, alternative options are to use autologous osteochondral graft transplantation, autologous chondrocyte implantation, and osteochondral allograft transplantation.
